Microsoft 70-500 Exam Importance

Microsoft

This 70-500 Exam is intended for IT professionals who design, implement, and manage mobile infrastructures, mobile devices, and mobile applications in an enterprise or small or medium-sized business environment. The qualified candidate for this exam typically has:

  • Experience with or knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange Server 2007 concepts such as Outlook Web Access (OWA), Outlook Mobile Access (OMA) , and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS).
  • One to two years of experience working with Active Directory directory service.
  • At least one year of experience working with mobile devices.
  • Experience using or managing Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack.
  • Experience with or knowledge of mobile and general network security concepts such as firewalls, reverse proxy, certificates, and configuring security protocols (EAP, TLS, WPA, WEP, and 802.1x).
  • Experience with or knowledge of Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 or later.
  • Experience with or knowledge of messaging protocols such as Short Message Service (SMS) and Hotmail (HTTP).

Credit toward certification:

When you pass Exam 70-500: TS: Microsoft Windows Mobile Designing, Implementing, and Managing, you complete the requirements for the following certification:

MCTS: Windows Mobile 5.0, Implementing and Managing

Skills measured:

Configuring Provisioning

  • Configure Exchange ActiveSync synchronization
  • Configure desktop synchronization
  • Configure mobile messaging protocols
  • Install and remove mobile applications
  • Configure mobile device settings by using Configuration Service Providers (CSPs)

Managing Devices by Using Exchange Server

  • Configure device policies
  • Install the Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web tool
  • Manage devices by using the Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web tool
  • Monitor IIS logs for usage statistics

Configuring a Messaging Infrastructure

  • Configure Exchange Server for Windows Mobile Messaging
  • Install and configure SSL certificates

Designing a Mobile Infrastructure

  • Design for mobile device integration into an existing Exchange Server infrastructure
  • Design server requirements
  • Design reverse proxy and firewall requirements
  • Design SQL Server infrastructure to support SQL Server 2005 Everywhere Edition (formerly SQL Server Mobile)
  • Design access to enterprise data

Configuring Network Connectivity

  • Set up Connection Manager
  • Set up WiFi connectivity
  • Set up cellular connectivity
  • Configure Bluetooth devices

Managing Mobile Applications

  • Configure Instant Messaging
  • Manage the Windows Mobile file system
  • Manage Dialer
  • Customize Windows Mobile devices
  • Identify causes of mobile application issues

Implementing Security for Mobile Devices

  • Configure certificate-based authentication
  • Select supported encryption standards
  • Select supported two factor authentication
  • Set up local security for a Windows Mobile device
  • Standardize mobile devices based on the appropriate tiered security model
