CCIE Voice

CCIE Cisco

The Cisco CCIE Voice certification is a bit different from some of its other certifications, as there are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. You’re not required to complete a training course or boot camp or any other related professional certifications. You simply have to pass a written exam as well as a corresponding hands-on lab exam.

Instead of formal classes or CCIE training, candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the exams and strongly encouraged to have at least three to five years of job experience before attempting the CCIE Voice certification.

The first step is passing a two-hour, 100 question written qualification exam covering the technology and applications involved in the Cisco Enterprise VoIP environment. Once you pass the test, you can proceed to the second step and schedule a lab exam. Written exams are typically adminstered by independent vendors and cost about $300, although the pricing is set by each training school or class that’s offering the exam. Cisco also often offers beta exams on its site at a discounted rate (usually $50 or so). While they count just the same as the exams offered by vendors, you don’t immediately know the results and have to wait six weeks or so for your results.

After you pass the written exam, the second and final step is to successfully complete the eight hour CCIE Voice lab exam. In the lab exam you will be responsible for configuring pre-installed applications to satisfy the requirements of the exam, as well as to troubleshoot various aspects of voice network, including VLANs, gateways and gatekeepers, and managing quality of service. The lab exam costs $1,250 per attempt and you receive your results within 48 hours. The exam is graded by proefessional proctors that use information from equipment and routers as evaluation tools as well as their personal judgment as to your success or failure.
